The “Big Thinker” Scholarship

The Christine Williams Wyatt Family Foundation is pleased to invite graduating Proviso Township District 209 high school seniors to apply for a “Big Thinker” academic scholarship. Each scholarship is a $1,000 award. We desire to award students with “Big” dreams and aspirations who plan to attend a two or four-year college, university, or vocational school upon graduating high school. We’re interested in learning more about your career goals, how you intend to reach them, and the qualities you have developed that will help you succeed.

2026 Scholarship Recipients

Yesenia Calzada

Yesenia is an alumna of Proviso Math & Science Academy and plans to attend Dominican University in Fall 2026. She wants to study biology and wants to enter the healthcare industry through medical school or a physician assistant program. Her healthcare interest stems from her father’s kidney cancer and the life-changing impact it had on her family. Her father’s journey inspired her to expand her knowledge to help cure people.

Edwin Obazuaye

Edwin is an alumnus of Proviso Math & Science Academy and plans to attend Northern Illinois University. He desires to pursue urban planning and public affairs in the future. Edwin is an observer of his environment and believes that urban planning contributes to what is around him. He wants to make communities around the country better, providing with them the resources they need to create a life that everyone deserves.

Nya Postley

Nya, an alumna of Proviso East High School, plans to attend Southern University to study elementary education in Fall 2026. She desires to educate young minds, creating a space where they feel safe and supported, while laying a solid foudation for their educational future. Her family played a huge role in her pursuit of higher education and acquiring the resources needed to achieve it.

Kennedie Rone

Kennedie is an alumna of Proviso West High School and plans to attend Howard University in Fall 2026. She was also a dual-credit student at Triton College. Her career goal is to become an actress that inspired others through storytelling and represent those who may feel overlooked. She intends to use her passion, strong work ethic, and willingness to achieve her goals. and make a positive impact on those around her.

Naima Turner

Naima, an alumna of Proviso West High School, plans to attend Alabama State University beginning Fall 2026. She intends to study Management with a minor in psychology, on the pre-dental track. She wants to become an orthodontist and book author. Discipline is a key aspect of her life and drives her desire to create clinical and community change. As a dual-credit student at Triton College, she received opportunities to lay the foundation of her dental career.

William Womack II

William is an alumnus of Proviso Math & Science Academy and plans to attend DePaul University in fall 2026. He intends to study Business while minoring in Information Technology. He aspires to be an entrepreneur who owns and operates a technology business focused on innovation to increase productivity in small businesses. William’s inspiration comes, in part, from his exposure to his mom’s career.
