Christine Williams Wyatt Family Foundation
Our History
Christine Williams Wyatt attended Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College (Arkansas AM&N) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and graduated from college with a degree in Education in 1963. Christine began teaching elementary education in the public school system of Marianna, Arkansas following graduation. She eventually moved to Chicago and began teaching elementary education in the Chicago Public Schoolsystem where she continued her teaching career for over 30 years. During this time, she decided she wanted to become a specialist in reading, and she obtained her Master of Education degree in 1981 from Roosevelt University. Christine was strict with her students, but fully dedicated to them to excel in education and become great people and leaders in society.
Education is something that was imparted to Christine Williams Wyatt and all of her siblings from their mother, Carline Williams. Carline was the eldest child of her family. She dreamed of being a teacher! Her mother passed when she was 9 years old. After finishing 8th grade, she needed her to stay at home to help raise her siblings as opposed to going off to get an education. Carline saw her siblings go and fulfill the dreams that she wanted for herself. That lit a fire under her and she vowed to put everyone in her family through college! With Carline’s vision in mind, all five of her daughters attended college and continued on to get their master’s degrees. All of Carline’s daughters went on to become educators realizing the dream she had of teaching others!
Christine was also unwavering in that she wanted the same for her children. She not only championed higher education for her children, but also for her community. Along with her husband, Reverend Caliph Wyatt, Jr., their church began a scholarship fund to promote education for the children in their community. Christine’s mission was to guide her family and community to a better way of life through education. We hope to continue the family legacy through the efforts of the Christine Williams Wyatt Family Foundation.
